Thus begins the current mission statement of Takoma Park Presbyterian Church (TPPC). We are a small, but active church in Takoma Park, Maryland working for social justice from Silver Spring to Jinocuao, Nicaragua.
Our church is known as "a church for all people" because our congregation is made up of people of many races, cultures, occupations, ages, and sexual orientations.
We welcome all to join our worship on Sunday at 11 AM, our Sunday School classes for children and adults at 9:30 AM, and we welcome you here as well.
The first Sunday in October, Christians of different denominations join together to celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. This is a day when we remember our unity in Christ across all the barriers of language, culture, and theology.
At TPPC we are graced with many people from many cultures. We all share of the one loaf and the one cup, offered in peace by our Savior.
To honor our diversity, while we celebrate our unity in Christ, we suggest that we come to worship that day (Sunday October 5) by wearing clothing that is common to your own tradition or one that you admire.
During worship, we will collect the Peacemaking Offering. TPPC's share of that offering will be used to support Peacemaking Opportunity Grants within the congregation. More information on these grants are available on our Peacemaking Group's page.
Please bring a favorite dish to share at the potluck. It could be from your own cultural heritage or any culture that you like. Together we can share and experience God's abundance in every culture. If you would like to help out with the luncheon (set up, and clean up), please email members@takomaparkpc.org.
Join the Adult Education class for a 12-week program featuring preeminent New Testament scholars Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan on location in Turkey, Greece, and Italy, tracing the Apostle Paul's footsteps throughout the Roman Empire.
Using a DVD and study guide, we will explore fresh insights into Paul's message of the Kingdom of God, its challenge to Roman imperial theology, and the apostle's radical relevance for today.
When: Sunday mornings at 9:45,
Where: In the parlor
The annual TPPC Church Bazaar will be held October 25. The Bazaar will feature used furniture, household items, clothing, toys, books, plants, baked goods, and the silent auction.
Please bring donations to 310 Tulip Avenue (the gym) on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. October 21-23, between the hours of 4-8 PM, and you will get a tax receipt.
Pastor Greiner invites you to join him in weekly mediation. You are welcome to come for sitting and walking meditation for 45 minutes. Discussion follows on a book about meditation; currently we are reading Pema Chodron's Comfortable with Uncertainty. The group is lead by the Still Water Mindfulness Practice Center, whose mission is to nurture all who wish to practice Mindfulness. Thich Nhat Hanh, a widely-known Vietnamese Buddhist monk, author and activist, is the key inspiration for this group.
For more information see the website; http://www.stillwatermpc.org/ or call Pastor Greiner at 301-270-5550.
TPPC now has a virtual bookstore, hosted by Cokesbury.com for TPPC.
You can access the virtual bookstore by clicking on the "Virtual Bookstore" graphic
to the right of this text.
Vistors to our virtual bookstore will be able to order books from Cokesbury.com at a discount, with a percentage of qualifying sales going to support TPPC. TPPC will soon be setting up a list of recommended books for the virtual bookstore; your suggestions are welcome.
